1981 started researching anime and manga. 1990 first anime programme at a UK convention, first UK anime newsletter. 1991 first UK anime magazine. 1993 first English language book on anime. 1999 first English language book on Hayao Miyazaki, 2001 co-authored The Anime Encyclopedia. 2010 Harvey Award and Eisner nonimation for The Art of Osamu Tezuka: God of Manga. 2021 co-edited first English language book on Leiji Matsumoto. Meanwhile I've written many more books, 13 in all, with more due next year, and talked about anime to audiences on three continents. Currently presenting nationwide on Studio Ghibli and the history of anime.
